Abstract
Own experimental and literature data allow a working hypothesis about an ''opsin bar'' to photoisomerization at the 7th, 9th, and 11th posit ions of the retinal polyene chain in the neutral purple form of native bacteriorhodopsin, as well as to the integration of such isomers with bacterioopsin under conditions yielding this form.
