Radiative lifetimes have been calculated for the singly-excited even-
and odd-parity nl(2)L (l = s, p, d, f) (n less than or equal to 9) sta
tes in Cu I with particular emphasis on the strongly perturbed np(2)P
degrees Rydberg states. The most important relativistic corrections an
d configuration interaction (CI) effects have been taken into account
in the framework of the relativistic Hartree-Fock (HFR) approach. A co
mparison of the present results with the most reliable experimental da
ta available shows an improvement over previous theoretical estimation
s and, in some cases, emphasizes the need for additional accurate lase
r measurements.
