This article investigates the implementation of a new digital pulse-ti
me modulation (PTM) technique based on a digital pulse interval and wi
dth modulation (DPIWM) scheme. Original expressions are presented for
code characterization, channel capacity, and power spectral density. T
hese illustrate the advantages of this scheme compared with convention
al pulse-code modulation (PCM). Both theoretical and simulated spectra
l results are given, and are shown to be in close agreement. (C) John
