The paper deals with a simple model of a mechanically excited column o
f a highly viscous fluid. Its transient oscillations are calculated vi
a the theory of functions. The excess pressure is obtained in the form
of an infinite series. An estimate of the natural frequencies under t
he influence of very high viscosity, in a gravity-free environment, is
put forward in graphical form.
