Mg. Mustafa et H. Nakagawa, A REVIEW - DIETARY BENEFITS OF ALGAE AS AN ADDITIVE IN FISH FEED, Israeli journal of aquaculture-Bamidgeh, 47(3-4), 1995, pp. 155-162
Algae biomass has been tested as a protein source for fish diet. This
paper reviews the results of nutritional studies on algae meal used as
an additive in fish feed. Algae raised the growth rate and feed effic
iency and improved physiological conditions such as protein assimilati
on, lipid metabolism, liver function, stress response and disease resi
stance. The carcass quality of cultured fish was also improved by usin
g algae meal as a feed additive. Algae might be essential for efficaci
ous utilization of nutrients in fish.
