RADIOLARIAN FACIES AND DISCONTINUITIES AR OUND THE DOGGER-MALM BOUNDARY IN THE PUIG-DEN-PARE FORMATION (SIERRA-NORTE, MALLORCA)

The study of radiolaria, combined with the ammonite record, permits th e proposal of an Early Callovian age to radiolarian facies in the uppe r part of the Puig d'en Pare Formation in the Sierra Norte of Mallorca Island (Spain). The biostratigraphic improvement leads us to a better evaluation of stratigraphic gaps at the Middle-Upper Jurassic boundar y in the area. Two stratigraphic gaps can be inferred to limit the stu died radiolarites : the lower one affecting the Middle p.p. and Late B athonian and the upper one affecting the Middle-Late Callovian and Ear ly-Middle p.p. Oxfordian. The restricted distribution of radiolarian f acies in the Sierra Norte are interpreted in relation to local upwelli ngs.
