Abstract
The type two intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction, when coupled with br idged to fused ring interchange, provides an efficient stereoselective route to fused 5,7- and 5,8-ring systems. This methodology has been u tilized in the total synthesis of (+/-)-ledol, an aromadendrane sesqui terpene.
