Blend-based polymer electrolytes composed of poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO)
, poly(oligo[oxyethylene]oxysebacoyl)(PES) and lithium perchlorate hav
e been prepared. The characteristics of these polymer electrolytes wer
e investigated in terms of blend composition and salt concentration, T
he addition of PEO to PES/LiClO4 complex significantly improved the di
mensional stability with a slight decrease in the latter's ionic condu
ctivity. The PEO(40)/PES(60)/LiClO4 electrolyte at [LiClO4]/[EO] = 0.1
0 exhibited an ionic conductivity of 3 x 10(-5) S/cm at 25 degrees C,
and was an elastomeric material with dimensional stability. The lithiu
m transport number in this system was determined to be about 0.37 at 4
0 degrees C.
