Because of the important binding energies of excitons and biexcitons i
n CuCl, these elementary excitations can be treated in the weak confin
ement regime if excited in semiconductor nanocrystallites. Their optic
al properties and dynamics are similar to those of CuCl bulk material.
Besides the well-known blue shift of resonances due to the confinemen
t and their inhomogeneous broadening due to the size distribution of t
he nanocrystallites, the main difference between both systems results
from surface effects and the lack of translational invariance in nanoc
rystallites. The latter affects the selection rules of optical transit
ions and the exchange interaction of the quasiparticules.
