Solutions of Li, Na and K salts of 3,3-dimethyl-2-piperidone and epsil
on-caprolactam in dimethyl sulfoxide-d(6) were studied by Li-6, Li-7,
Na-23, H-1 and C-13 NMR, Raman spectroscopy and MNDO molecular orbital
calculations. Using NMR relaxation, the dynamics and equilibrium stat
es of solvation, dissociation and cation exchange were clarified. At c
oncentrations above 0,1 mol/L, molecular aggregation to a dimer and po
ssibly higher aggregates has been found.
