S. Chirita et R. Quintanilla, SPATIAL DECAY-ESTIMATES OF SAINT-VENANT TYPE IN GENERALIZED THERMOELASTICITY, International journal of engineering science, 34(3), 1996, pp. 299-311
Decay estimates of Saint-Venant type are established within the contex
t of dynamic generalized thermoelasticity. A thermoelastic body is def
ormed under null body loads and initial conditions and subject to non-
zero boundary data only on a plane end. The behaviour is studied for t
he total energy stored in that part of the body beyond a distance z fr
om the basis. An estimate is established that describes the spatial de
cay of end effects. When the harmonically vibrations of a right cylind
er are considered, it is shown that an exponential decay of activity h
olds away from the excited end provided that the exciting frequency is
less than a certain critical frequency.
