We construct minimum-uncertainty solutions of the three-dimensional Sc
hrodinger equation with a Coulomb potential. These wave packets are lo
calized in radial and angular coordinates and are squeezed states in t
hree dimensions. They move on elliptical Keplerian trajectories and ar
e appropriate for the description of the corresponding Rydbeg wave pac
kets, the production of which is the focus of current experimental eff
ort. We extend our analysis to incorporate the effects of quantum defe
cts in alkali-metal atoms, which are used in experiments.
