Abstract
Split injection of 1-pentanol headspace on to raw or treated fused sil ica tubing yields information on the characteristics of its surface (s ilanol concentration, polarity, adsorptivity). Fused silica tubing fro m three sources was compared. The effect of various leaching and etchi ng procedures used for column preparation was studied, as was the stab ility of uncoated fused silica precolumns towards water and some organ ic solvents.
