Kf. Hampl et al., TRANSIENT RADICULAR IRRITATION AFTER SINGLE SUBARACHNOID INJECTION OFISOBARIC 2-PERCENT LIGNOCAINE FOR SPINAL-ANESTHESIA, Anaesthesia, 51(2), 1996, pp. 178-181
Several cases have been reported recently in which symptoms suggestive
of transient radicular irritation occurred following the use of hyper
baric 5% lignocaine for spinal anaesthesia. We report on three patient
s in whom we observed similar symptoms attributable to this kind of ra
dicular irritation following uneventful spinal anaesthesia using isoba
ric 2% lignocaine. All three patients underwent minor gynaecological p
rocedure and developed burning pains in the buttocks within 24 h of su
rgery. The long-term outcome was not clear for all the patients, but i
n at least one the pain disappeared.
