We derive a formula for the limit entropy of a symbol sequence constru
cted by independently choosing and concatenating words of different le
ngths distributed according to given probabilities. The result is appl
ied to a simple model exhibiting the phenomenon of intermittency type
I. The scaling of the limit entropy as a function of the parameter con
trolling the chaos to order transition is compared with scaling relati
ons of the corresponding Lyapunov exponent and excellent agreement is
found.
