Hw. Gottfried et al., MINIMALLY INVASIVE TREATMENT OF STRESS-IN CONTINENCE - 2 ALTERNATIVE METHODS (ENDOSONOGRAPHIC VS TRANSURETHRAL OF COLLAGEN INJECTION), Der Urologe, 35(1), 1996, pp. 6-10
For many years, injectable substances have been in use for the treatme
nt of incontinence. We examined different methods of injecting glutara
ldehyde crosslinked bovine collagen injection for their effectivness i
n treat ment of genuine stress incontinence. In the first group of pat
ients collagen injection was done under endo-ultrasound guidance, In t
he second group an endoscopic system was used, There was no major diff
erence in patient selection for the two groups. Incontinence symptoms
became less severe in only 5 of 15 (33%) patients in the endo-ultrasou
nd group, who then had moderate stress incontinence, Endoscopic collag
en treatment resulted in social continence in 15 of the 22 (68.2%) pat
ients. We conclude that endoscopic collagen is superior to endo-ultras
ound-guided collagen injection in the treatment of incontinence.
