The majority of programs to address elder abuse centre on the plight o
f the victim. In contrast, the Elder Abuse Perpetrator Program deals d
irectly with the abuser, Based on the principle of confrontation and u
tilising cognitive-behavioural techniques, the program applies to thos
e cases which have not been resolved through supportive educative meas
ures or by abuser self-resolution. This paper briefly outlines the pro
gram and describes some of the valuable lessons learned since its intr
oduction. It also offers suggestions to agencies and practitioners who
may wish to implement such a program.
