A macrophage activation syndrome, possibly related to methotrexate tox
icity, developed in a boy with systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
Corticosteroid administration was ineffective, whereas a prompt respo
nse to cyolosporine was observed. Two months later, Pneumocystis carin
ii pneumonia developed.
