Abstract
We show that two recent generalizations of symmetric functions-quasi-s ymmetric functions and noncommutative symmetric functions-can be inter preted in rite context of the representation theory of the O-Hecke alg ebras of type A, and provide for them an analogue of Frobenius theory for the symmetric group.
