Use of the solid state nuclear track detector methods for the experime
ntal study of neutron physical characteristics of nuclear reactors has
been developed in the Nuclear Power Engineering Institute of the Acad
emy of Sciences of Belarus. A series of solid state nuclear track dete
ctors has been tested and two of them have been chosen: artificial mic
a for detection of fission fragments and cellulose triacetate for dete
ction of alpha-particles. The basic neutron field characteristics of b
oth fast and thermal reactors have been obtained by this method.
