Abstract
Five life-history traits of 34 freshwater fish species widely distribu ted within the French rivers are examined. Our results are in good agr eement with the classification of WINEMILLER and ROSE (1992) between e quilibrium, periodic and opportunistic strategies. Most French fishes must be considered as periodic strategists.
