A SCHEME FOR AN INTEGRATED PRODUCTION PLANNING AND CONTROL-SYSTEM

A true CIM system needs an effective integration plan not only for har dware, but also for inter-departmental (inter-functional) and intra-de partmental (intra-functional) interaction. Up to now, most of the effo rts are directed towards developing integrated engineering systems. Un fortunately, the ''CIM system excluding the Integrated Planning & Cont rol system'' is the present status of CIM. It can ensure technical adv antages through technical flexibility, no doubt. But the ultimate goal of improving quality, with reduced levels of inventory, reduced cost etc. through better materials planning is still absent. This can be ac hieved only through an integrated production planning and control syst em. This paper presents a scheme for an Integrated Production Planning and Control System.
