Pg. Carrillo et al., ISOLATION AND SELECTION OF BIOSURFACTANT-PRODUCING BACTERIA, World journal of microbiology & biotechnology, 12(1), 1996, pp. 82-84
Haemolysis has been used as an initial selection criterion for the pri
mary isolation of surfactant-producing bacteria. Only 37 of 492 strain
s of different origins had haemolytic activity, These 37 strains, toge
ther with 49 non-haemolytic ones chosen at random, were studied for su
rface activity. Only five strains, all of them haemolytic, tested posi
tive. Haemolysis and biosurfactant-production are thus probably associ
ated.
