Three probes of the dynamical response of the nucleon are considered i
n the framework of nontopological soliton models: Compton scattering,
pion scattering, and photoproduction. It is shown that low-energy theo
rems, based on gauge and chiral symmetries, are satisfied in such mode
ls. Crucial to this result is the use of a model and a framework (RPA)
for calculating the response to external probes which treat the trans
lational zero mode correctly. Processes such as the static polarizabil
ities and threshold pion scattering which are not constrained by low-e
nergy theorems are also considered.
