R. Gaglione et al., A COMPARISON OF HYSTEROSCOPY AND HYSTEROSALPINGOGRAPHY, International journal of gynaecology and obstetrics, 52(2), 1996, pp. 151-153
Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the diagnostic reliabil
ity of hysteroscopy (HSC) and hysterosalpingography (HSG) in patients
suffering from primary and secondary infertility. Method: Seventy wome
n (50 with primary and 20 with secondary infertility) undergoing HSC a
nd HSG were prospectively studied and the diagnostic capacity of the t
wo techniques was compared. Results: HSG proved to have a sensitivity
of 79.1% and a specificity of 81.8%, with an 18.1% false-positive rate
and a 18.9% false-negative rate. Conclusion: HSG is of exclusive impo
rtance in the assessment of tubal morphology and function and has a se
condary and complementary role to HSC in the inspection of the uterine
cavity and tubal ostia.
