Increasingly closed circuits in waste paper processing mills result in
ever mole frequent production failures and quality problems due to hi
gh circuit loading. In a multitude of mills, water circuit conditions
were systematically studied. By determining the characteristics K1 and
K2, optimization potentials can be identified and suitably elaborated
. For all mills involved, proposals for optimization were prepared whi
ch have in part already been translated into practice. Simulation calc
ulations are a very useful tool in this context. Apart from optimizing
water circuits from a process engineering viewpoint, biological treat
ment processes may be introduced to reduce circuit loading and specifi
c effluent volumes. Depending on the production process and the target
ed circuit relief, the rating of biologies has to meet the specific ne
eds of the circuit systems concerned. When assessing and implementing
all these measures, special attention should be paid to their economic
s.
