Kk. Makinen et al., ANALYSIS IN GINGIVAL CREVICULAR FLUID OF 2 OLIGOPEPTIDES DERIVED FROMHUMAN HEMOGLOBIN BETA-CHAIN, Journal of Periodontal Research, 31(1), 1996, pp. 43-46
HPLC on a reversed phase column: amino acid sequencing and mass spectr
ometry were used to determine the structure of two human gingival crev
icular exudate oligopeptides (Leu-Thr-Pro-Glu-Glu-Lys-Ser-Ala-Val-Thr-
Ala-Leu and Leu-Val-Val-Tyr-Pro-Trp-Thr-Gln-Arg-Phe) which were shown
to have been derived from the beta-chain of hemoglobin. These sequence
s may simply represent two degradation products of the beta-chain. How
ever, their preservation in an exudate characterized by active peptido
lysis may also prompt the question about their possible more specific
role.
