The solvated barium titanium glycolate BaTi(C2H4O)(3) . 4C2H6O . H2O f
orms a preceramic powder upon calcination in air at 900 degrees C that
sinters to polycrystalline BaTiO3 at 1300 degrees C (see inset). The
precursor is easily prepared using benchtop procedures from inexpensiv
e starting materials and yields ceramic BaTiO3 having good electrical
properties (K' = 2260, loss tan delta = 0.01 at 1 V/cm, 1 kHz, 25 degr
ees C).
