W. Samir et al., INTERPLAY OF GRATING AND NONLINEARITY IN MODE-COUPLING, Journal of the Optical Society of America. B, Optical physics, 11(1), 1994, pp. 64-71
The effect of a uniform grating on the evolution of the orthogonal pol
arization modes in a nonlinear birefringent waveguide is examined for
the first time to our knowledge. The problem involves the interplay of
the linear coupling that is due to the grating, the Linear birefringe
nce, and the nonlinear made coupling. After examining the basic formul
ation and methods of solution, we present a series of results demonstr
ating a variety of nonlinear phenomena, such as bistability. Other two
-mode systems are predicted to behave in a similar way. The possible i
mplementation of three logic gates from one device configuration is di
scussed.
