Abstract
Anthracenes bearing a primary alkyl, omega-hydroxyalkyl, aryl or vinyl substituent at the 2-position are conveniently prepared by a copper-c atalyzed Grignard reaction on 2,3-epoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroanthracene, followed by dehydration - dehydrogenation of the resulting alcohols wi th tetrachloro-1,2-benzoquinone (o-chloranil).
