On the basis of the exact solution for the potential profile of a 2N-t
urnstile with equal junction capacitances C and coupling capacitance C
-0, we obtain the explicit expressions for the total free energy as we
ll as the corresponding charging energy, barrier height on the middle
island, and threshold voltage. It is shown that the charging energy, t
he barrier height, and the threshold voltage are very sensitive to the
number of junctions and the value C-0/C.
