The effect of the magnesium content, the solidification conditions and
the lightmicroscopic structure on the specific electrical conductivit
y of the Aluminium cast alloy AlSi7Mg were investigated. The specific
electrical conductivity decreases with increasing Mg-content. Generall
y, the specific electrical conductivity and the mechanical properties
evaluated by tensile test are increasing with increasing refinement of
the microstructure and decreasing porosity. Therefore, the definition
of a ''lowest specific electrical conductivity limit'' as a quality c
riterion of AlSi-castings becomes possible.
