S. Raju et al., AN ESTIMATION OF ELECTRONIC CONTRIBUTION TO THE DEBYE TEMPERATURE OF TRANSITION-METALS, Zeitschrift fur Metallkunde, 87(1), 1996, pp. 51-54
The electronic contribution to the Debye temperature of transition met
als is calculated using the Wills-Harrison model for representing the
effective interatomic interaction. For bcc metals, interactions prevai
ling up to the second coordination shell are taken into account. The c
alculated Debye temperatures are found to be in reasonable agreement w
ith the available empirical and non-empirical estimates. The periodic
variation of Debye temperature is attributed to the role of d-band eff
ects in controlling crystal cohesion.
