Abstract
The nucleotide sequence of the structural gene of nitrate reductase (n arB) has been determined from the filamentous, non-heterocystous cyano bacterium Oscillatoria chalybea. The narB gene encodes a protein of 73 7 amino acid residues, which shows 61% identity to nitrate reductase o f the unicellular cyanobacterium Synechococcus sp. PCC 7942 and only w eak homologies to different bacterial molybdoenzymes, such as nitrate reductases or formate dehydrogenases.
