The results are given of comparative analysis of the content and trans
formation of Sr-90 and Cs-137 over a peat deposit of swamps. During ra
dioecological study, account was taken of the quantitative composition
and physicochemical properties of the peat, as well as of the specifi
c nature of the entry of radioactive products to peat deposits. Consid
ering the increased capacity of peat for accumulating radionuclides an
d the specific features of sorption processes in a peat deposit, it is
expedient to utilize swamps as a convenient natural object for contin
uous monitoring of radioactive contamination of the environment.
