Abstract
Loss-free counting has been successfully implemented for neutron activ ation analysis with short-lived nuclides at the Interfaculty Reactor I nstitute (IRI) and at the National Institute of Standards and Technolo gy (NIST). In the system built at IRI, the LFC is integrated through a buffer module to a Unix workstation; the NIST system uses standard Ca nberra equipment and VMS software. Procedures are described for the ca libration and validation of LFC in these two environments, with emphas is on accuracy and on control of the quality of the measurements.
