The applications of multifunctional energy dispersive x-ray fluorescen
ce system have been described. Application of micro-beam x-ray fluores
cence technique using capillary optics for the quantitative analysis o
f titanium and bismuth distribution in glass samples has been shown. T
he samples of glass made of GRIN materials have been scanned along the
ir diameters and the distributions of the concentrations of TiO2 and B
i2O3 admixtures have been determined. Total reflection x-ray spectrome
try was applied for the determination of minor and trace elements in m
inute samples (ca. 10(-5)g) of medieval pigments. The knowledge of pig
ments chemical composition can facilitate to find the source of their
origin. The malachite and azurite were analyzed. The broad x-ray beam
from yttrium secondary target was used for the analysis of urban dust
collected on filter surface. The detection limits and accuracy for iro
n, zinc, copper and bromine have been established.
