J. Oeken et al., METASTASIS OF AN OVARIAN ADENOCARCINOMA T O THE SUBGLOTTIC AREA - A LARYNGOLOGICAL RARITY, HNO. Hals-, Nasen-, Ohrenarzte, 44(1), 1996, pp. 27-31
Malignant tumors of the larynx are an important disease entity in otor
hinolaryngology and mainly involve squamous cell carcinomas. Different
epithelial or mesenchymal malignant tumors are reported only sporadic
ally and metastases localized in the larynx are even rarer. In this re
port We present a patient who was found to have a laryngeal metastasis
from an adenocarcinoma. An ovarian carcinoma treated 7 years previous
ly was the primary tumor and first metastasized into the left lung and
then into the subglottig area of the larynx. Because the surgical pro
cedures and chemotherapy used for each lesion were successful and no l
ocal recurrences were found, the same therapeutic rules for the treatm
ent of metastases to the larynx should be applied as in cases of prima
ry malignancies.
