Ms. Aljiffry et al., EVALUATION OF ILLUMINATION LEVELS IN JEDDAH INDUSTRIAL ESTATE IN SAUDI-ARABIA, Journal of environmental science and health. Part A: Environmental science and engineering, 31(10), 1996, pp. 2677
This paper reports the results of illumination levels at 76 factories
in the industrial estate of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. The factories were
selected at random from different types of industries such as plastic
, metal, chemical industries etc. Subsequent analysis of the data was
carried out to obtain global picture about the illumination practices
at the factories. The survey reveals existence of over illumination du
ring day shifts in most of the factories. This is due to use of natura
l light and also, due to use of excessive artificial lights, on occasi
ons. There is, as well, under illumination at night shifts in signific
ant number of factories which indicate design insufficiency and poor m
aintenance. There is also very wide variation in illumination levels a
mongst factories indicating lack of any standard practice.
