Infection of the maxillary sinus is frequently treated by the general
practitioner, since it is usually a complication of upper respiratory
tract infections and acute nasal allergy. This study considers the bac
teriology of the maxillary sinus infection and looks at the therapeuti
c response to amoxycillin and azithromycin. It is notable that resista
nce of Haemophilus influenzae to amoxycillin has increased. Azithromyc
in proved very effective, having the advantage of a much simpler dosin
g regimen.
