Abstract
Despite the reductions in hospital bed usage, community care has not h ad a great impact on the social functioning of patients with schizophr enia. This may result from a lack of psychological focus for these tre atments. However, factors within both individuals and families can pro duce a toxic interaction with care in the community. Some of these tox ic factors are listed and their implications for rehabilitation and co mmunity care are discussed.
