Trifluoronitrosomethane reacts with trifluoromethylarsine and bis(trif
luoromethyl) arsine to afford CF3As[OBN(H)CF3](2) (A) and (CF3)(2)AsON
(H)CF3 (B), respectively. Compound B has been found to decompose at 60
degrees C to give (CF3)(2)As(O)H, (CF3)(2)AsOH and (CF3)(2)AsF. The r
eactions of both A and B with anhydrous hydrogen chloride result in th
e cleavage of the As-O bond to afford quantitative yields of the respe
ctive arsenic chloride. Reactions of B with bis(trifluoromethyl) nitro
xyl gives (CF3)(2)AsON(CF3)(2), (CF3)(2)NOH, (CF3)(2)NH, CF3NO2, CF3NO
and a non-volatile white solid.
