Abstract
The sesquiterpenoid furanoaldehyde furoixiolal ell has been synthesize d in 7 steps from 3-(rho-tolyl)butanal. The key step is a Pummerer rea rrangement of 5, which leads via 6 to the furan 7. The synthesis confi rms the structure of 1.
