In December 1992, cardiac transplantation (for right heart failure wit
h partially occluded pulmonary arteries but with a normal left ventric
le) was accomplished with partial resection of right atrium and ventri
cle but with preservation of the left heart, obtaining a three-ventric
le heart. The short-term result (27 months) is good, with normal nativ
e and grafted heart rhythms and functions, allowing us to conceive of
the possible application of this procedure in some other selected case
s.
