Sporidesmium maclurae Thum., the causal organism of leaf-blotch of osa
ge-orange, is redescribed and illustrated from its type material and f
rom fresh collections made in Alabama, where it is of common occurrenc
e. The fungus is reclassified in the genus Pseudocercospora Speg., as
P. maclurae (Thum.) Morgan-Jones & Phelps, being closely similar to it
s type species, P. vitis (Lev.) Speg. Comments are made on the heterog
eneity of Pseudocercospora as presently constituted. Cercospora maclur
ae Ell. & Everh. is considered to be a synonym of P. maclurae.
