Abstract
Marinas have become a major part of the waterfront leisure industry. T his Paper covers site selection and investigation, development of mari nas and facilities for them, engineering considerations and the proble ms that may arise. Future prospects are surveyed, although they are hi ghly dependent on the economic situation. To help the initial phases o f marine planning, the Appendix comprises a 'planning and engineering guide' which is internationally applicable.
