The effects of complexation on thermochromic Schiff bases in beta- and
gamma-cyclodextrin and their permethylated derivatives have been inve
stigated in the solid state. The inclusion complexes formed have been
found to be photochromic and fluorescent in the temperature range 298
K-77 K contrary to the photochromic Schiff bases which are fluorescent
at low temperatures only.
