Abstract
Using a marsupial mouse, we have transplanted additional eye primordia to the midbrain at stages before host visual centers are normally inn ervated; transplant or host projections were later traced. In contrast to the normally continuous crossed retinocollicular input, both trans plant and host projections were arranged as rostrocaudally aligned str ipes or as discrete patches. We propose that competitive interactions between transplant and host axons have induced the discontinuous input . (C) 1996 Academic Press, Inc.
