As the US population ages, there is a growing need for information abo
ut the urologic health problems facing older adults. In conjunction wi
th findings from clinical studies and basic research on biological mec
hanisms, the epidemiologic approach offers insights on the prevalence,
etiology, and impact of these geriatric conditions. This information
can provide the basis for planning health care services and interventi
on programs. The authors discuss trends associated with population agi
