Using coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) of the radiation of
two CO2 lasers, spin resonances of electrons and holes in Pb1-xMnxSe
were observed. The data yield high-precision values of the effective g
factors of valance and conduction bands for Mn contents between 0% an
d 2% and temperatures between 1.7 and 20 K. The band structure of the
diluted magnetic semiconductor with its exchange interaction between f
ree carriers and localized magnetic moments of the Mn ions is describe
d in the framework of a molecular-field approximation. The CARS result
s together with magneto-optical interband absorption data yield a comp
lete set of band and exchange parameters.
